On September 20, the “Center for International Terminology Policy and Planning”—a research center co-established by China National Committee for Terminology in Science and Technology (CNTERM) and Tongji University—was officially inaugurated at Tongji. Pei Yajun, Full-time Deputy Director of CNTERM, Wang Min, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education Institute of Applied Linguistics, Wang Qi, Director of the 7th Review Division of CNTERM, and more than 70 experts and scholars from home and abroad attended the unveiling ceremony and participated in a symposium on “Terminology in Science and Technology and the Construction of the Independent Knowledge System”.

The unveiling ceremony of the Center was hosted by Professor Shen Qi, Associate Dean of the School of Foreign Studies, Tongji University and Director of the Center. Lyu Peiming, Executive Vice President of Tongji, Pei Yajun, Full-time Deputy Director of CNTERM, Li Yuming, Professor of Beijing Language and Culture University and former Director of the Language and Text Information Management Department of the Ministry of Education, Professor Li Wei, Dean of the Institute of Education, University College London (UCL) and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences UK, and Zheng Chunrong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Studies of Tongji, delivered speeches successively.

Lyu Peiming and Pei Yajun jointly unveiled the plaque for the “Center for International Terminology Policy and Planning”, marking the official establishment at Tongji University of this high-level research platform dedicated to science and technology terminology policy research. The participating experts unanimously agreed that the establishment of the Center is well-timed; it will strongly promote theoretical innovation, policy planning and international cooperation in the field of science and technology terminology in China. Following the unveiling ceremony, the “2025 Academic Symposium on Terminology in Science and Technology and the Construction of an Independent Knowledge System” was convened.

The establishment of the Center is another important measure taken by the School of Foreign Studies to serve national strategies, conduct organized scientific research, and promote transformation towards digital-intelligent empowerment, green development and integration of disciplines.
