On April 30, LI Xiangning, Member of the University Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice President of Tongji University, led a team to Wuhan, Hubei Province, to carry out enrollment promotion and research work. The team paid successive visits to the Hubei Provincial Department of Education and No.1 High School Affiliated to Central China Normal University. Through in-depth discussions and targeted demand docking, the University further deepened university-local education cooperation and fully advanced the implementation of enrollment promotion and top-notch innovative talent training in Hubei. Personnel from the Hubei Enrollment Group of the School of Foreign Languages and Tongji University Wuhan Alumni Association participated in the research and exchanges.

LI Xiangning and his delegation first conducted research and discussions at the Hubei Provincial Department of Education. They held in-depth exchanges with relevant officials of the department on targeted enrollment policy alignment, high-quality student source cultivation, and coordinated university-local development, jointly exploring new ideas and paths for university-local education cooperation. At the meeting, LI Xiangning expressed sincere gratitude to the Hubei Provincial Department of Education for its long-term strong support for Tongji University’s enrollment work, and elaborated on the University’s latest progress and outstanding achievements in discipline construction, talent training and international development.
He stated that in recent years, adhering to discipline-driven development, Tongji University has continuously advanced interdisciplinary integration and made forward-looking arrangements in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence. It has established five research institutes focusing on Engineering Intelligence, Medical Artificial Intelligence, Extreme Environment Construction, Air Transport and Low-Altitude Economy, promoting the transformation of traditional engineering disciplines toward an intelligent paradigm featuring in-depth integration of data-driven decision-making, knowledge empowerment and physical laws. Meanwhile, the University has promoted the interdisciplinary development of basic disciplines, forming a sound pattern where traditional advantageous disciplines complement and coordinate with emerging interdisciplinary disciplines.
In terms of talent training, the University has optimized the training system for top-notch talents, improved high-quality characteristic training programs including the Guohao Elite Class, Qidi Class, Basic Discipline Top-notch Talent Class, and double-degree programs. It has innovatively launched the 2+X+Y integrated undergraduate-postgraduate-doctoral training model, optimized the scale and layout of talent training focusing on frontier fields. Leveraging its long-standing strengths in cooperation with Germany and Europe, the University has steadily upgraded its international schooling capacity and opening-up level.
Both sides reached broad consensus on Tongji University’s enrollment work in Hubei. Agreeing to align the University’s talent training orientation with the educational development needs of Hubei and the characteristics of local student sources, they will further optimize the enrollment layout, normalize enrollment promotion and talent training connection mechanisms, facilitate coordinated university-local education development, integrate top-notch talent training with local industrial demands, and achieve win-win cooperation.
Subsequently, the delegation visited No.1 High School Affiliated to Central China Normal University. University and high school leaders had in-depth discussions on the integrated training path of top-notch talents between high schools and universities as well as the delivery of high-quality student sources. LI Xiangning introduced Tongji University’s featured top-notch talent training models, emerging major layouts and campus culture construction. He extended a warm welcome to outstanding students to apply for Tongji University and pursue personal growth with the support of the University’s high-quality educational resources. He noted that Tongji University will continue to strengthen in-depth cooperation with key high-quality source middle schools, build a platform for joint talent cultivation, improve connection mechanisms, and provide broader development space and stronger support for students’ growth.

During the research trip, LI Xiangning and his delegation also held discussions with representatives of the Wuhan Alumni Association. Alumni officials stated that the Association will give full play to its role as a bridge and bond, continue to support the University’s enrollment promotion and talent exchange work in Hubei, build platforms and gather alumni resources to attract more outstanding students from Hubei to apply for Tongji University and contribute to the University’s development.
Relevant officials remarked that this research visit to Hubei is an important measure for Tongji University to deepen university-local educational coordination, optimize enrollment layout, and improve the training quality of top-notch innovative talents. Going forward, the University will further strengthen collaborative links with educational authorities and key middle schools, innovate enrollment promotion models, and enhance high-quality discipline construction.
