Center for Comparative Literature and Cross-Cultural Studies
Tongji University has made remarkable achievements in its studies of foreign literature and Chinese literature, especially in the areas of comparative literature and cross-cultural studies. Professor Chen Quan’s Studies on Chinese and German Literature was acclaimed as the groundbreaking work on China’s comparative literature.
Established in 2017, the Center for Comparative Literature and Cross-Cultural Studies adopts cross-linguistic, cross-national and interdisciplinary approaches to investigate the relationships between dierent national literatures as well as the cross-pollination of Chinese and foreign cultures. It aims to reveal the diversity and integration of dierent cultures by probing into the interaction between Chinese and foreign literature. Its research focuses on the relationships between Chinese and foreign literatures; comparative literature; literary dissemination and reception; literary and cultural translation history; imageology; and overseas Chinese studies.
Its current research focuses on cross-cultural ecocriticism; the relationships between Chinese literature and the literature of America, Europe and Japan; the history of translated literature in China; the dissemination of Chinese literature and culture into other cultures; and overseas Chinese studies.
