The Japanese Studies Institute of Tongji University

The Japanese Studies Institute of Tongji University was established in October 1986. The Institute focuses on the studies of Japanese politics, economy, social culture, language and literature, conducting comprehensive research on Japan. The institute is committed to comprehensive research on and exchanges with Japan and other Eastern Asian counties, while at the same time it also cultivates national think tanks by talents who have a deep understanding of Japan.

The Japanese Studies Institute of Tongji University is aliated with the School of Foreign Languages of Tongji University and the development strategies of this institute are consistent with the development strategy of China in the new era and the talent training systems of Tongji university. It integrates the highest levels of Tongji University’s political science, economics, communications, linguistics and other disciplines to conduct in-depth research on the politics, social and cultural development of Japan from an interdisciplinary perspective, providing references for China’s national policy towards Japan and contributing to the Japanese studies and cultural communications. The institute holds a large-scale international academic seminar every year, inviting domestic and foreign experts and scholars to study and discuss issues related to Japan and East Asia.

So far, the Institute has successively published three series of Japanese Studies; Collection of Lectures and Essays from the Asian Community; The Envoys of the Same Asia and many other works. It has also published more than one hundred papers in various important domestic and foreign journals and has been gained hundreds of thousands of yuan in various vertical and horizontal research projects. In addition, it has co-hosted many international academic seminars and bilateral academic forums between China and Japan.
