Research Center for National Discourse and Global Communication

Established in 2018, the Research Center for National Discourse and Global Communication is committed to conducting academic research on improving China’s international discourse system. It aims to build a high-level think tank and a talent incubator in national discourse translation and global communication. Serving national strategy and “Double First-Class” initiative, the center adopts both local and global perspectives to carry out in-depth interdisciplinary studies on national discourse for global communication, by relying on its strengths in translation studies and linguistics while drawing on insights from other disciplines such as communication studies, diplomacy, international relation studies and management. These studies provide a comprehensive basis for China’s international discourse system and national decision-making, and contribute to building China’s diplomatic profile and promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges, thereby strengthening China’s international discursive power and improving its global governance capability.

Since its establishment, the center has been granted a major National Social Science Fund and has published over 20 papers in SSCI and CSSCI journals. Cooperating with the Economic Daily, it initiated a program of “Chinese Character Silk Road” which was recognised as a key program of Chinese Culture Going Abroad, and it received high praise from Le Figaro (France) and Il Sole 24 Ore (Italy). The center has signed contracts for translation services with the Jinggangshan Revolution Museum, Yan’an Luyi Culture Park, and the Yan’an Literature and Art Museum, with the aim of promoting the global communication of Chinese Red Culture, which has become a model for telling China’s stories to the world.
