Center for Language Planning and Global Governance

Language planning is a fundamental project in global governance. Focusing on global language issues and language governance, tthe Center for Language Planning and Global Governance, as the first institution of its kind in China, was established in July 2019.

Driven by practical issues, the Center aims to build a research mechanism integrating theoretical pursuits into applied research and policy-oriented studies in the areas of national language security, urban emergency language governance capacity, language service for smart cities, and global language governance in services for national and local decision-making in language planning and policy. The center has been sponsored by national and other governmental funds and has supported book series publications on LPP for Belt and Road Initiatives and Global Language Governance. In 2020, a new international journal, Educational Linguistics, with De Gruyter publishers.

The center promotes cutting-edge academic research by hosting transdisciplinary conferences and building academic communities. The Center is also dedicated to serving both students and society by organizing academic training and developing teaching materials
